Images (2018)

I wrote and recorded Images while in my home town A Coruña between August and December 2018. It features Hamilton Belk on pedal steel (As Time Goes By), Fabio Mahia on electric guitar (Blue Mist and Images) and Dani Peligro on sax (Blind Road). All music and lyrics by myself.

Lyrics

Blue Mist

Blue mist hiding the clinging sun
Pale golden crown above the crowd
Time fly by flap your ruby wings
What will you bring when today’s done?

And I put my heart into this game
Til daytime, night time feel the same
Beyond the ocean at its own pace
Blue mist fades and leaves no trace

As Time Goes By

I’m reaching all of you better than ever
With this sweet lo-fi thing that I put together
And I really don’t have anything else
No I really don’t have anything else
To tell you anymore, words get on the way
Time goes by

They ask me how I am, I think I’m getting by
I don’t need to open up, I guess I’m doing fine
I really don’t have anything else
No I really don’t have anything else
To tell you anymore, words get on the way
Time goes by

And I guess I never cared for anything new
No one ever knows the changes I go through
And I really don’t have anything else
And I really don’t have anyone else
To talk to anymore, words get on the way
Time goes by

Taurus

Soothing orange shades of light
Inside the four walls of my world
Drifting in a haze of thoughts
Down a wide-angled road on my own

The ocean sky lies overhead
Cloud of wind where we once were
In my mind it feels so real
Except that you are there and want me still

We sing along the same old song
As evening skies are fading red
Between my heart and Gemini
So close to Venus and the Moon
sweet April child

Soothing orange shades of light
Inside the four walls of my mind
Between my heart and Gemini
I can only see you, sweet April child

Images

Two vcr’s, three picture books
Old newspapers and parachutes
Camcorder-captured love
Life as it was when I was born
Peering out to big skies
by the ocean of my mind
I cleanse my spirit as it flies

Images of our life
souvenirs of the soul
Colours so warm and so bright
Images of heroes past
motion pictures on the wall
Moments that mean so much

And I stare at my own eyes
Cool loving mother in paradise
Sky-blue jacket, cobbled roads
Songs of the south, joys of old
And I guess I’m always ready
To see the world the way it was
If only I could simply go back

Images of our life
souvenirs of the soul
Colours so warm and so bright
Images of heroes past
motion pictures on the wall
Moments that mean so much

Two vcr’s, three picture books
Old newspapers and parachutes
Camcorder-captured love
Life as it was when I was born
And I’m yet to find somebody
That truly shares my code
as I stroll down this lonesome road

Easy Ride

Easy ride
Hundred miles up the western coast
Through wide plains and green fields
Easy ride
With a bunch of old favourite songs
And a sweet angel on the wheel
Easy ride
Black cloud above us like a stone
Hanging so close and so still

Everybody’s out in the sun
While I watch my day burn out
and I ask myself what’s left to try
try to get back on an easy ride

Easy ride
silver dew of the dolphin trail
spark of white flame, cliff-sheltered bay
Easy ride
Through the eyes of mountain walls
Across the border and into the snow

I had to go, leave for a while
To find myself and my place in time
Whatever’s next I’ll just have to wait
To try get back on that easy ride

Easy ride
Cannot think of other ways to say
that this road was made for both
Easy ride
I’m now ready to get back on the road

if I can get her to come along

The Longest Night

Now the summer is gone and winter is come
we all seem so fearful of life slipping away
sun of the west softly burning so bright
silent skies forced to linger
waiting for the longest night

I’ve been to the hills

wide prairies and the docks
for time never waits

and all roads know how to walk
I’m cast in strange old worries and strife
Troubled rush that I fear to tread
heading to the longest night

Many journeys I have made

many abandoned at stake
many callings of the soul

that I could never forsake
but no one can say

I didn’t try to do things right
often I get weary with thought
many about the longest night

I’m ready for the next move

and changes of the ride
but I never know which to go by,

my heart or my mind
some things aren’t worth

one second of your time
some bad turns have to be made twice
on our way to the longest night

Blind Road

Morning dew, familiar ache
Being awake, being almost me
I breathe sweet war in the air
Vague trail of memories fair
footloose and fancy free
and that’s as much as I should sing

Broken glass, the weight of rain
Uneven skies, choices we make
Drifting from everything real
Every day just feels the same
There’s nothing left to feel
I have fewer roads left to take

And all I need is to close the door
Wait for everyone to leave the room
Pick your stuff up from the floor
It’s a late night here on Blind Road

Early fall back in town
A good friend is coming round
I haven’t seen him for a while
I know you’re listening close
I’m in the zone, but I’ve run out of words
I stopped going through our file

Chasing something I’m not sure of
I follow ghosts into strange places
Haunted by the eyes of endless cases
Whatever this is, I’m in too deep
It’s easier to just go to sleep
Where dreams leave no traces

And all I need is to close the door
Wait for everyone to leave the room
Pick your stuff up from the floor
we never made it to Blind Road
